GEMS FOUNDER

  • Founder

“Shoot for the moon and worst case you’ll land in the stars.”

The above statement has been staggeringly and awe-inspiringly true for me from day one of developing the concept of Gems for Gems. In truth, I had no idea how tenacious and impactful Gems would become. All I knew was that more and more people kept wanting to help and I couldn’t let them, or this dream of mine, down when the path forward was being so supported. I have continued to do my utmost every day since to do justice to the sacrifices and kindness of so many for Gems. I am utterly consumed by gratitude and focused on doing my absolute best to further the impact of our organization.

I am truly honoured and humbled daily to be leading this incredible group of people and to have my dreams championed by the collective force of the Board of Directors, the Ambassador Team, and the ever-growing community around Gems for Gems.

Thank you all and I can not wait to see what we can accomplish next!”

  • Founding Ambassador and Team Lead for the "Gents for Gems " Ambassadors

“What is truly special about Gems is the fact that a whole community rallies around providing survivors with REAL solutions to end the cycle of domestic abuse. No bandaids, no BS tag lines or programs to grab attention & donation dollars. Just real, tangible, and substantial action that is ACTUALLY changing the lives of each and every woman they touch. Incredible.”

  • Research Lead

“I believe in the foundation of Gems, the growth in Gems, and the awareness of domestic abuse that Gems brings to the public.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of Gems and help grow more public knowledge of domestic abuse by being the Research Team Lead.

"Kelsey is a dedicated advocate with a Bachelors degree in Sociology, specializing in Law and Society. With a robust background in the not-for-profit legal sector, Kelsey spent four years passionately supporting southern Alberta’s most vulnerable populations. Transitioning into the medical world, Kelsey recognized the pivotal connection between advocacy and healthcare, but it was the personal experience of early motherhood that ignited a deep commitment to supporting women and children in the community. Drawn to Hopes Cradle, Kelsey now leverages all of her various experiences to make a difference in the lives of babies and birthing individuals, contributing to a safer and more supportive environment for those in need."

  • Hope's Cradle Communications, Ambassador Applications and Gems News Coordinator

"Gems holds a special place in my heart. I had watched and supported Gems for Gems from the sidelines for a couple of years and seeing the ripples of change and awareness roll through the world around them; young and old, I knew I wanted to be a part of the bigger picture and help in our community, in any way that I could. I had absolutely no idea how much it would teach and empower me to become a better version of myself!

What I love about Gems is that the initiatives Gems offers are innovative in the sense of providing a solution of how to move forward from tough experiences in our communities while supporting the growth to “empower women to empower themselves”. It’s truly life-changing for all involved.

Gems is bold in that it chooses initiatives that aren’t run of the mill,  they may stir up some belief systems but the end goal is always to make a difference; no matter what they are up against because they truly believe in them!"

  • Community Relations Generator

“I hold Gems for Gems very close to my heart. For me, being a part of Gems has surpassed volunteering. • Event Fund Manager

“It is truly amazing to know that there is a charity organization like Gems for Gems. Their mission to provide awareness of domestic abuse is something that I know is extremely important. Gems’ dedication and ambitions have changed people’s lives by providing education and support for survivors so that they can live peaceful, abuse-free lives. Jordan and the Gems team are compassionate, supportive, and kind people with strong values for creating positive change.

I am extremely excited to be a part of the Gems team and am looking forward to contributing to more positive changes in the world.

  • Ambassador Team Lead for Hope's Cradle

“Representing Gems for Gems as an ambassador means more to me than simply being a volunteer. Gems is a community of thoughtful, kind and selfless individuals who all play an important role in furthering the Gems mission. I feel so grateful to be a part of this team and community, and I truly have learned so much alongside everyone who is a part of it as well. I’m inspired every single day by Gems to be the change!”

  • Ambassador Admissions

“I am a happily married mom of two girls, who are the main reason I was drawn to Gems for Gems. The idea that we can help women to know their strengths, and how to use them to empower themselves, is something I fully believe in. In my “past life” before kids, I received a B.A in Sociology with a major in Child and Youth Care work/ Child Development and enjoyed working with special needs children until I decided to stay home when I had my own children. Since then I have volunteered extensively in their schools and sporting activities and felt it was time to do something outside of their lives that I knew would continue to help others.”

  • Hope's Cradle Outreach

Honoured. I can’t say it enough. I am beyond honoured to be a part of Gems for Gems as the Hope’s Cradle Outreach Ambassador.

To be part of an organization who’s built its entire reputation by working to end domestic abuse, by way of empowering women through compassion, truth, and courage is truly inspiring. Furthermore, to see this non-profit evolve and grow by introducing initiatives such as Hope’s Cradle; a community partnership with Fire Departments working to end infant abandonment by creating a safe, supportive place for both mothers and babies is something I wholeheartedly stand behind.

Thank you to Jordan for entrusting me to be an Ambassador. I can’t wait to see what else this charity is capable of!

GEMS JUNIOR AMBASSADORS

  • "I am a 13-year-old girl from Calgary, Alberta. I am a positive, hard-working, and caring individual who is extremely motivated to help others in the community. Gems for Gems is an organization that I am both inspired and honored to be a part of.”

  • "My name is Tori Hibbard and I am a grade 12 student in Calgary, Alberta. I believe that you are never too young to make a difference and look forward to doing so
with Gems. I am fortunate to live in a healthy and positive environment and I am looking forward to helping people who may not be so lucky. I feel it is
important to start teaching about positive relationships at a young age in order to help people identify negative warning signs in their interactions. On the other side
of that, I want to help young people develop relationship skills that create a healthy environment for them and I look forward to doing so with Gems.”

  • “I believe strongly that people need to learn domestic violence is NOT only physical abuse and I want to help change things, so youth can learn the different types of abuse and can then know what the warning signs are. I am honored to be working with Gems to end the cycle of domestic abuse.”

  • "I have always been very passionate about people and equality. Domestic abuse is a terrible thing that many people face and I’d like to be apart of changing that by helping the movement. Everyone deserves a chance and to receive support no matter what they are going through. To me Gems, helps people give and receive that!”

  • “ I am Maxton, a 15 year old and I am starting Grade 11 in the fall. I have watched my mom be involved in Gems for the last few years. I am an only child raised by a single mom living in a healthy environment, which we know is not the same for everyone. We know a couple women who have experienced domestic abuse and I don't like seeing the people we care about affected by it. I am in High School now and that is when most kids my age start getting into relationships. I think that educating teens about safe and healthy relationships is the first step in preventing domestic abuse. The most important part is showing them the warning signs and teaching them that domestic abuse is more than just physical violence. I am looking forward to helping again with the jewlery drives and other events that Gems will be hosting as I enjoy volunteering for this great cause.”
